A small section of the Great Ocean Road in Victoria
|
The Great Ocean Road is great place for a holiday when you have a baby because you don't have to fly on a plane for a change of scene. My favourite thing about the Great Ocean Road is the abundance of comfortable, affordable family-friendly accommodation. For the price of a one bedroom hotel room, you can rent a whole house that can fit many more people. And if you splurge a little, you could rent a very nice big house (or mansion) and for the duration of your stay pretend it's yours and that you're rich!! Back to reality: we went through the "specials" section of
Great Ocean Road Real Estate Holidays and chose a very nice but modest house in Wye River.

We brought our own food and ate in most nights, but one day we brought back some seafood from the pier fish shop in nearby Lorne. It was not as fresh as I was expecting, but it least it looked good.

Unlike nearby Lorne and Apollo Bay, there are very few shops in Wye River; just a small beach and lovely leafy surrounds. But if you're after a quiet holiday, then it's perfect. Some places houses may have cots and high chairs, but more likely you will have to bring your own portacot and baby seat. Ask the real estate agent to make sure.
